Sri Lanka scored 952 for 6 against India, at Colombo, Sri Lanka, between August 4 and 6, 1997. The Sri Lankan players were showered with presents and hailed as heroes by their countrymen. The government even gave each one of them a plot of land in the outskirts of the capital. Sanath Jayasuriya and Roshan Mahanama, the two cricketers who contributed the most in setting the all-time record in Test cricket, were given $25,000 between them by the Sri Lanka cricket board.
